Sunshine Coast Bowen Therapy
What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen therapy (also known as the Bowen Technique or Bowtech) is soothing on the body and is successful in assisting the body’s healing and adjustment processes. The Bowen Technique involves the application of mild rolling movements on tendons, ligament, muscles and nerves. These movements influence the whole body, causing the body to initiate a remedial and corrective process. The Bowen movements reinstate the body’s balance from flight or fight mode to res or relax mode, diminishing the body’s pain response.
Muscles and fascia adapt, as the body starts to return to its usual blue-print and corrects posture. In contrast to many other orthodox therapies, Bowen therapy does not force a correction on a person’s muscles. Bowen therapy activates the muscles to start to adjust themselves. Many people fall asleep through the treatment due to the lack of force, manipulation and no popping of bones.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Bowen therapy?
Bowen therapy is a non-invasive technique that uses gentle, rolling movements over muscles, tendons and connective tissue. The method aims to prompt the body’s natural ability to rebalance without applying force or manipulation. Sessions are typically quiet and relaxing, allowing time between movements for the body to respond. It’s commonly used as a complementary approach to support musculoskeletal and stress-related concerns.
Is Bowen therapy safe for everyone?
Bowen therapy is generally considered low-risk and may be suitable for a wide range of people. Because it involves minimal physical pressure, it may be an option for individuals who prefer gentle treatments. However, it’s not intended to replace medical care. People with specific health conditions are encouraged to speak with a qualified practitioner or healthcare provider before beginning any new therapeutic approach.
What can I expect during a session?
During a Bowen therapy session, the client typically lies on a treatment table while the practitioner performs a sequence of gentle movements. Short pauses are taken between each series to allow the body time to integrate the input. Most sessions last between 45 to 60 minutes. Comfortable clothing is often worn, and no oils or equipment are required for the treatment.
